Dr. Hugh J. Rogers Memorial Fund
Dr. Hugh J. Rogers was a 1937 graduate of Bellefonte High School, where he excelled in academics and athletics. Going on to graduate from Penn State and the University of Pennsylvania School in Medicine, he and his father, Dr. James Coburn Rogers, provided a combined 75 years of service as team physicians for the Bellefonte athletic programs. Affectionately known as "Doc," Dr. Rogers was an old-style family physician who treated generations of families epitomizing the small town, American ideal of the general practitioner. To this day, former patients recall with deep thanks and gratitude the care he provided not only to the patient but to the patient's family members as well. The Dr. Hugh J. Rogers Memorial Fund was established to recognize and reward two graduating Bellefonte Area High School seniors, one male and one female, who have exhibited excellence in academics and athletics, and demonstrated good citizenship through school or community activities. The fund provides them each with a $500 scholarship.
