State College, PA – August 11, 2023 – In 2023, $398,645 was awarded to 210 local students attending 55 post-secondary institutions to help support their academic careers. Thanks to the generosity of the community members who have established award and scholarship funds at Centre Foundation, many students will receive important funding toward their education.

“When donors set up or contribute to a scholarship fund with us, they are helping students get a head-start on furthering their education,” said Molly Kunkel, President and CEO at Centre Foundation. “Our community is home to many donors who are committed to alleviating some of the costs associated with higher education.”

Recipients include graduating seniors from the five Centre County school districts, students graduating from select schools in neighboring counties, and returning adult learners.

Centre Foundation holds over 150 scholarship and award funds to benefit a wide range of students from those pursuing athletics to those who give back to the community, and more. One such scholarship recognizes students for their dedication to giving back to the community.

The Bellefonte Lions Club Memorial Scholarship was established by the Bellefonte Lions Club to fund an annual scholarship for a Bellefonte Area High School senior that reflects the ideals of the Lions Club. The recipient must demonstrate these ideals by participating in community service projects. Students should also attend a higher education institution, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and demonstrate financial need.

Chelsea Snook is the 2023 recipient of the Bellefonte Lions Club Memorial Scholarship and will be attending the Vet Tech Institute of Pittsburgh this fall.

“This scholarship created a big impact on my college career at VTI, by not only to help with financial aid benefits but to show and tell people that no one should give up on their dreams, even if it might seem to be too late, there is always a light at the end of a dark alley,” said Snook. “So, keep trying, you got this!”

“As the new Grants and Scholarship Administrator for Centre Foundation, I have been truly amazed by the talented, hardworking students in our community,” said Krista Williams, Grants and Scholarship Administrator at Centre Foundation. “Learning about their accomplishments and goals has been the best part of my job so far.”

High school seniors wishing to apply for scholarships should contact their respective school districts to learn more.
