Walter M. and Louise F. Swoope Fund
Walter M. Swoope, Jr., a benefactor and lifelong resident of Philipsburg, devoted himself to Philipsburg and its historical legacy, as illustrated by his extensive collection of historical memorabilia and service to his beloved community. He restored and preserved a number of properties in Philipsburg including the Lorraine House on South Centre Street and the Finberg Building on Front Street. He was also involved with the preservation of Philipsburg’s historic sites, including Rowland Theatre, the Simler House, and the Union Church, also known as the Old Mud Church. This fund honors Walter’s philanthropic passions and his deep ties to Philipsburg by supporting the following organizations: St. Thomas of Canterbury Anglican Church of Philipsburg, Rowland Theatre, and The Philipsburg Historical Foundation.
