Schlow Library Endowment Fund
This fund was created through the combination of the Sara Light Hays, Thelma Kaufman, and Kenneth F. Barber Memorial funds, as well as the Cathi Alloway Fund, in honor of Cathi’s retirement as director of the library in 2021. This endowment provides for the purchase of books, materials, and programs. The library has a long history of enriching the State College community. The first incarnation of Schlow Library, then called the State College Public Library, opened January 17, 1957 at 222 West College Avenue. The building was donated by a prominent local businessman, Charles Schlow. Thanks to help from the community, the library quickly expanded from two rooms to four rooms, and by 1966, the library moved to its current location at the corner of Beaver Avenue and Allen Street. In 2005, renovations were completed and the library re-opened in its current state. Schlow Centre Region Library opens doors for members of our diverse community to gather, share, and discover a wealth of ideas, the joy of reading, and the power of information by providing services and resources in a welcoming, convenient and responsive manner.
