Richard A. Queeney Fund for Educational Opportunity

Born in Boston, Richard Queeney was a 1958 graduate of Melrose High School, where he was captain of both the track and cross country teams. He received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from MIT and a doctorate of philosophy with a specialization in solid state technology from Penn State. From 1965 until his death in 2003, he served as a faculty member in engineering science and mechanics at Penn State. For 15 years, Rick timed and officiated cross country and track meets for both Penn State and State High. He actively supported the district and was appreciative of the excellent education provided for his daughters, Deborah and Katherine. Rick was also a founding member and board member of the College Heights Association. During the 1970s and 80s, he was a beekeeper and member of the Central Pennsylvania Farmers Market, where he served two terms as president. In the 1990s, he operated Linden Hall Hardwoods. This fund supports students within SCASD who lack resources to participate in class or extracurricular activities. Funds may be requested by teachers, coaches, administrators, and other staff on behalf of the student. The goal is to assist as many students as possible each year.
