Osaze’s Heart Community Service Scholarship
Osaze Osagie was a soft-spoken and personable young man who loved music, reading his Bible, and attending church. As a high school student in State College, and later a student at Penn State, Osaze volunteered with various organizations in the community, despite living with mental health challenges and autism. Osaze's life was tragically cut short when he was killed during a police response to his home. Honoring Osaze’s deep commitment to helping others in need, the Osaze Osagie College Scholarship endowment was launched in 2021, and its first scholarship was awarded in 2022. Renamed in 2023, the Osaze’s Heart Community Service Scholarship remains dedicated to keeping Osaze’s spirit of caring alive.
The scholarship is available to racially underrepresented high school seniors from State College Area High School who serve the community through volunteerism and are planning to attend post-secondary school. This endowment was started with funds raised by Central PA Standing Up for Racial Justice and has grown through the generous donations of individuals and businesses. The committee working on the endowment is excited to share that more than $120,000 has been raised so far to support this important scholarship. They are committed to continuing to grow the scholarship to benefit deserving local students and our community.
