Mr. Ed Mattil created this fund in memory of his son, Michael, who was an editor with Little-Brown Publishing in Boston. Michael graduated from State College Area High School and had degrees from Yale and Brown Universities. Ed Mattil considers investing in the education of youth as one of his life goals. This fund will provide five scholarships, named The Next Step Scholarships, to each of the five Centre County School districts. These scholarships are to be used for post-secondary education, not limited to the pursuit of a bachelor’s degree, but may be for an associate’s degree or a trade or vocational certification in a wide range of technical areas.
