Kathy Palmer Outreach Fund
Born in Canada in 1928, Kathy Palmer lost her mother six years later during the Great Depression. Her father struggled to support his three daughters, so Kathy began a new life with foster parents in Virginia, thanks to the work of her aunt, Sister Helen of the Episcopal Order “Sisters of the Holy Nativity.” She earned her bachelor’s degree in English and French at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she met and married her husband Howard. In 1955, they moved to State College and joined St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, where Kathy co-founded Clothes Closet, an organization that provided free clothing for over 30 years. Over the years, Kathy was heavily involved with her church. The couple also opened their home to over two dozen people in need. The Kathy Palmer Outreach Fund will continue the legacy of Kathy’s work at the church by supporting outreach initiatives.
