John Raynar Penn State Media Leadership Fund
State College native John Raynar began his radio career in the Nittany Valley, receiving invaluable mentorship from two legendary Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame members, Robert K. Zimmerman and Cary Simpson. Under their guidance and through his involvement with The LION 90.7fm (WKPS), John met and worked alongside such diverse personalities as Howard Stern, Paul McCartney, and Joe Paterno. After surviving the attacks on the World Trade Center since he lived just one block away, John then survived a gang-initiated assault ritual on Miami’s South Beach wherein he lost an eye. However, these challenges did not hold John back; he went on to work for Clear Channel and later became the sales manager and main on-air personality at KKHJ in American Samoa, where he found his wife with whom he now has three children. John believes the guidance he received from alumni mentors was critical to his success, so this fund seeks to help permanently institutionalize such opportunities by providing supporters of student-run media financial resources necessary to foster future generations.
