During her 22 years of volunteering in the community, Helen immersed herself in many agencies, such as The American Red Cross, Associated Charities, Interfaith Mission, State College Food Bank, United Way, and the Voluntary Action Center. From her first role as a Red Cross volunteer in 1968, to her time as executive director in the 1970's, to her last role as a Family Services Officer helping Hurricane Bob disaster victims five months before her death in 1992, Helen was especially passionate about her Red Cross work. She loved and lived the Red Cross mission of service. This fund provides awards to State College Area High School graduates who share Helen's commitment to community service.
