This fund is in honor of Fred and Joan Thompson, lifelong residents of Centre County. Fred was born in Snow Shoe, where he attended primary school. He then attended Bellefonte High School and earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering from Penn State. Joan was born in Centre Hall, where she spent most of her childhood. Her family then moved to State College, where she attended primary and high school and later earned a degree in home economics from Penn State. Each of their four children also earned degrees from Penn State. Fred served as President and CEO of Locus Inc. and worked with numerous new venture companies in the Centre Region. Community volunteerism was always important to both Fred and Joan. This fund is inspired by Fred and Joan's many philanthropic passions, such as supporting healthy lifestyles, children in need, people struggling with sight loss, environmental conservation, and the Presbyterian Church, including Krislund Camp.
