Brenda Jo Van Tries Memorial Scholarship Fund

A 1984 graduate of State College Area High School, Brenda Jo pursued a non-traditional career and attained the recognition of being the first female to earn the rank of lieutenant at the Huntingdon State Correctional Institute, where she worked for 17 years. Sadly, in the prime of her career and at the age of 39, Brenda Jo was killed by a drunk driver in 2006. Her family and friends have memorialized her with this fund. Scholarships are given to State College Area High School students who have a demonstrated desire and aptitude to attend a technical, trade, or business school and have financial need, with preference given to those students who participate in alcohol education programs.
