Tom and Barbara Mebane Fund
Tom and Barbara Mebane were long-time residents of the State College community. Barbara was involved with the American Red Cross, Girl Scouts, American Friends Service Committee, Centre Country Medical Auxiliary, State College Chapter of UNICEF, and AFS International Exchange Program. She served on the boards for both the State College Area School District and Centre Region Parks & Recreation Authority. She was an active parishioner in the Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon for several years. Of all her charitable endeavors, Barbara was most proud of her service to The Music Academy of State College, which she helped found in the mid-1960s. Tom was State College's first pediatrician, later focusing on emergency medicine. For decades, he provided a service to the community by performing physicals for State College Area School District teachers and staff. He also served several terms on the school board for the State College Area School District. The Mebanes established this fund in hopes of playing an even further role in enriching and enhancing the lives of Centre County residents. When fully funded, this fund will support Foxdale Village Community Fund, Schlow Regional Library, and the State College Presbyterian Church.
