Mary Deming Schlow Library Fund
Born in Bellwood in 1890, Mary Emma Bevan Deming was an active member of the State College community. For 16 years until her passing in 1981, she was actively affiliated with Schlow Centre Region Library. This fund is in memory of Mary’s dedication and supports the purchase of books for the children’s department. In addition to her involvement with the library, Mary taught in the State College Area schools for 45 years, founded and served as the first president of the Centre County chapter of the Pennsylvania State Retired Teachers Association, served as the social and welfare chairman of the Salvation Army, and was a member of the following organizations: National Retired Teachers Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, University Baptist and Brethren Church of State College, State College Branch of AAUW, and Pi Lambda Theta.
