Martha was a registered nurse and an active member and officer of the Graduate Nurses' Study Club. She served as a volunteer for the Red Cross Bloodmobile for many years and was a longtime resident of State College. During its 67 years of existence, the Graduate Nurses' Study Club considered raising funds for nursing scholarships to local recipients to be one of its main activities. Between 1959 and 1994, the club gave more than $23,000 in financial aid and scholarships. This fund provides scholarships to State College High School students pursuing a career in nursing.
