L. Vaughn and Betty Ann Woomer Memorial Fund

This memorial fund was established by Vaughn and Betty Woomer’s children, three daughters and one son: Dr. C. Suzanne (Woomer) and Alan W. Wrye, Barbara J. (Woomer) and Dr. C. Port Williams, Mary Lou (Woomer) and Gregory K. White, and Rev. Mark T. and Rev. Sharon Woomer. Vaughn, who was Valedictorian of the Tyrone Area High School Class of 1940, was very involved in the music program—a passion that continued throughout his and Betty’s lifetime. Both Vaughn and Betty graduated from Juniata College with degrees in chemistry and mathematics, respectively. Vaugn worked for Westvaco Corp for nearly 40 years, while Betty worked as a substitute teacher before starting a family. Both were active in the First Presbyterian Church of Tyrone and supported the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library. Each year, this fund will make three separate grants: Woomer, White, Williams, & Wrye Family TAHS Scholarship- Annual $500 scholarship to TAHS senior who participated in the music program and is pursuing a major in music, education, nursing, mathematics, or chemistry. Other majors will be considered. Betty A. and L. Vaughn Woomer Family Tyrone-Snyder Library Grant- Annual $150 grant for the purchase of children’s books. L. Vaughn and Betty A. Woomer Family Krisland Camp Scholarship- Annual $250 scholarship to a week at this Presbyterian Church camp. Available to those living in the Huntingdon Presbytery and identified by church deacons or Krisland Camp as in need of financial support.
