Inez Snookie Williams Memorial Cello Chair Fund
Born in Pittsburgh in 1916, Inez “Snookie” Williams had a passion for music. In 1938, she received a degree in music education from Carnegie Institute of Technology and then taught in Bradford. After marrying Dr. Victor Linville Williams in 1940, she directed the community chorus in Lock Haven, taught at Bald Eagle-Nittany High School, founded the Lock Haven Community Orchestra, and taught private piano and violin lessons at her home. She was a violinist and later a cellist, performing with the Lock Haven Community Orchestra and the Nittany Valley Symphony. She was organist/choir director at Great Island Presbyterian Church in Lock Haven and directed the choir at the Mackeyville Methodist Church after the family moved to Mackeyville in 1954. She moved to State College in 1991, where she was a member St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. In celebration of her 90th birthday, she started a collection of money to help support the Nittany Valley Symphony. Upon her death in 2007, donations made in her memory were combined with her birthday money to begin this fund, which supports the principal cello chair of the Nittany Valley Symphony.
