Gordon D. and Alice R. Kissinger Fund in Memory of Jack Kissinger
This fund was established by Gordon and Alice Kissinger in memory of their son, Jack, who was a very normal child for the first four years of his life, until he was stricken with encephalitis, which stopped his brain and childhood development. Alice took care of Jack for 47 years until she was no longer able to do so. Jack then lived the at Skills group home on West College Avenue until his death in 1993. Alice was one of the seven founding members of the Arc of Centre County, a nonprofit organization geared towards ensuring the rights of persons with an intellectual disability, supporting their families, and helping each person reach his or her personal best through an array of community services. The Arc of Centre County was started in 1953 by a group of concerned parents. Services offered by The Arc include Community Living Arrangements; Supported Living; Family Living and Home-Based Waivers; and Nittany Employment Services.
